Sea Level Ingredient Amounts

  • 4 ounces butter
  • 8 ounces sugar
  • 4 ounces eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ounce cocoa powder
  • 2 ½ ounces all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder

9,000 Foot Elevation Ingredients

  • 3 ¼ ounces unsalted butter
  • 7 ounces sugar
  • 5 ounces eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ ounces cocoa powder
  • 3 ounces all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder

Sea Level baking time per recipe: 25 to 30 minutes. Baking time at 9,000 feet: 25 minutes.

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan.

2. In a large saucepan, melt 4 ounces butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread batter into prepared pan.

3. Bake in preheated oven. Do not overcook.
